Hi, I’m Steve.

I like to draw & paint & stuff.

Thanks for stopping by & taking a look at my site.

I was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY fifty-two years ago, as was my passion for drawing. Since those halcyon days in the garden spot of the USA, I’ve drawn or painted something pretty much every day of my life and have no plans on stopping any time soon.

My earliest influences were the Star Wars art of Ralph McQuarrie, the photos on my Topps baseball, football, & hockey cards, and of course Ken Kelly’s famous paintings of KISS!

As I grew older I discovered the genius of Derek Riggs, Drew Struzan, and later on Alex Ross & the great Sebastian Kruger. These men became the “Big 4” for me, and set the standard to which I aspire.

As my influences would suggest, I tend to prefer drawing people & things more than places (landscapes are not my deal, & don’t even get me started on the ocean…). When drawing people, I tend to work in an almost photo realistic style. Which is to say, that I enjoy adding a lot of detail, but I don’t strive to confuse the viewer into thinking that he or she is looking at a photograph. I want my paintings to “look like” paintings, very detailed paintings.

I have earned a BA in illustration and a MBA in business management. Other than being able to say that I have them, neither of these degrees has helped me much in my career, but I’m told that I should list them as achievements in my bio. Done.

I started my career designing & painting murals, primarily for children’s nurseries and did that for a few years. While I did enjoy the process of painting on such a large scale, the subject matter was often very limiting and I began to drift away from the mural business. I still take on mural clients, but I am selective about what projects I will take on.

Over the past few years, I have been working primarily in the music merchandising industry, designing promotional merchandise for international performing artists like Alice Cooper, Anthrax, Motley Crue, Motorhead, One Direction, and many more. The nature of this work requires that the majority of the designs be digital in nature, so my main mediums have become Photoshop, Illustrator, & Painter. However, I still draw & paint in traditional mediums whenever time allows. Not that there is anything wrong with computer generated art, but there’s nothing like the smell of paint & linseed oil to make me feel alive.

That’s about all I can think of to write about myself, except to say that I now live in Cherry Hill, NJ with my amazing wife & two awesome boys. Both of my boys are swimmers, so I spend a great deal of my time sitting at a pool playing on my phone. I am a die-hard Montreal Canadiens fan & I absolutely hate the summer & hot – humid weather. I should probably live in Canada…
